Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation’s 22nd annual Race for the Future brings runners and volunteers together to support students

Race for the Future, a 5K run/walk on October 13, raised over $55,000 to benefit the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation and the Carrie Foresee Memorial Scholarship Fund. Nearly 950 runners and walkers registered for the 5K event and another 140 participated in the Kid’s Dash or registered as Dream Partners.

Approximately 100 volunteers assisted with the Race. Race results, including times for all runners and walkers, are available at the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation’s website at www.lsedfoundation.com. Results and race photos may also be viewed at www.runsignup.com.

Westview Elementary won the prize for highest percentage of participation by staff and students, winning a traveling trophy and $1,000 grant from the Foundation. Sunset Valley Elementary came in second, winning a traveling trophy and $500 grant from the Foundation. Woodland Elementary received third place honors and a $300 classroom grant and Hazel Grove and Pleasant Lea Elementary Schools tied for fourth place, each winning a $250 classroom grant.

Race day concessions were generously provided by Farmer Brothers Coffee, Hy-Vee, LaMar’s Donuts and Panera Bread. Special thanks for in-kind gifts from Freestyle Graphics, Lead Bank, Bodies Health & Fitness, Rockhill Orthopaedic Specialists and Mark Curp Running & Fitness.
