LSR7 Artists Earn Recognition from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
Approximately 70 art students and four art teachers from the Lee’s Summit R-7 School District earned recognition from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
The museum’s annual Día de los Muertos Festival gave LSR7 artists from Pleasant Lea and Bernard Campbell middle schools the opportunity to make nichos, which are small shadow boxes created to honor others. Open from Nov. 1-14, the exhibit showcases artwork from the LSR7 students and art teachers Ms. Katie Messick, Mrs. Jewelee Lukowski and Mrs. Phoebe McAlister. Ms. Messick and Ms. Kathy Graves, Lee’s Summit West High School art teacher and 7-12 art department chair, were also chosen to serve on the museum’s Teacher Advisory Board, which includes just 17 teachers from around the region.
