Phyllis Balagna and Jacqueline Clark achieve advanced certifications from Missouri School Boards’ Association

Phyllis Balagna, top photo, and Jacqueline Clark of the Lee’s Summit R-7 Board of Education were both recently honored by the Missouri School Boards Association (MSBA) for receiving advanced leadership certifications through the organization’s professional development program. Both Board members were recognized at the MSBA Leadership Summit on June 2.

Ms. Balagna, who is serving as Board of Education president, achieved both Advanced and Master Certification from the organization. Mrs. Clark, the Board’s vice president, was honored for achieving Advanced Certification.

The MSBA program helps local school board members develop the knowledge and skills they need to function as effective educational leaders in their communities.

All newly elected school board members must complete a basic 16-hour Essential Training required by state law. Those members achieving Advanced Certification must complete an additional 12 hours of training, read two books related to school board service, attend at least two MSBA regional or statewide events and write brief reflection paper relating their study to their board service.

The Missouri School Boards’ Association is a private, not-for-profit organization that exists to help school boards succeed.
