Savannah Meyer, a junior at Lee’s Summit West High School, earned a National Silver Medal for her original painting “Deity” from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit that presents the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Maryam Khalil, a senior at Lee’s Summit West High School, has been awarded the Princeton University Prize in Race Relations. This award recognizes high school students who have had a significant positive effect on race relations in their schools or communities through their volunteer efforts.

All LSR7 high schools’ robotics teams to attend World Championship

Robotics teams at all three Lee’s Summit High Schools have once again qualified to participate at the World Championship competition this year in Houston, Texas, April 17-21. Last year over 15,000 students in grades K-12, from 25 states and 42 countries, and their custom-built robots, competed in this event with similar numbers expected this year. A second Championship will be in Detroit, Michigan, for even more students from the other 25 states and numerous countries.

Lee’s Summit West High School senior Abigail White has been named the 50th annual Missouri Interscholastic Press Association Student Journalist of the Year. This is the first time in LSWHS school history that a student has earned this honor.

Students from Lee’s Summit high schools nominated for U.S. Air Force Academy

Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II nominated two students for the U.S. Air Force Academy: Luke Poudel, Lee’s Summit West High School, and Austin Merit, Lee’s Summit North High School.

Luke participates in band, Junior ROTC and soccer. He also volunteers for Harvesters. Austin is involved in National Honor Society, cross country, his church youth group, ROTC and color guard. He is also the AFJROTC Group Commander and Drill Team Commander and an Optimist Student of the Month.

Congratulations, Luke and Austin! We are proud of you.

Lee’s Summit All-High School Smart Program to host annual ‘Freeze Out’ to benefit local Lee’s Summit charities and the​ ​​​Shoes for Orphan Souls ​program​

Tiger Smart, Bronco Smart and Titan Smart will participate in our annual “Freeze Out” from 5 to 9 p.m. Dec. ​7​ in front of Lee’s Summit High School.

Students will remain outside for four hours. During this time, they will collect clothing, especially coats and winter apparel, to be donated to local charities. This year ​an additional focus will be on collecting  donations of ​new or gently used shoes as part of the Shoes for Orphan Souls program. ​Community members are encouraged to drop off their donations at the school’s Building A south entrance, near the tiger head.
