LSW’s Tessa Duncan and Skyler Koroch, for earning a Congress of Future Medical Leaders’ Award of Excellence

Tessa, a junior, and Skyler, a senior, represented their high school and the State of Missouri at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Boston, Massachusetts this past summer.  Both students recently received an Award of Excellence for completing the program, where students collaborated with other students, learned from prominent medical leaders and even watched a live surgery.

LSR7 students are top 30 finalists at National Speech and Debate Tournament

They debated in a simulated Congress, and performed in ten-minute plays. They delivered speeches they wrote themselves, and engaged in debates after learning the topic 30 minutes ahead of time.

Lee’s Summit R-7 high schoolers had an impressive showing at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Dallas, Texas late last month, with several competitors placing in the top 30. The event is the premier competition for speech and debate students, many of whom have already had stand-out performances at local and state events.

Savannah Meyer, a junior at Lee’s Summit West High School, earned a National Silver Medal for her original painting “Deity” from the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, a nonprofit that presents the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

Maryam Khalil, a senior at Lee’s Summit West High School, has been awarded the Princeton University Prize in Race Relations. This award recognizes high school students who have had a significant positive effect on race relations in their schools or communities through their volunteer efforts.

All LSR7 high schools’ robotics teams to attend World Championship

Robotics teams at all three Lee’s Summit High Schools have once again qualified to participate at the World Championship competition this year in Houston, Texas, April 17-21. Last year over 15,000 students in grades K-12, from 25 states and 42 countries, and their custom-built robots, competed in this event with similar numbers expected this year. A second Championship will be in Detroit, Michigan, for even more students from the other 25 states and numerous countries.
